Top Style Trends of 2011

As we inch closer to the new year it's a great to reminisce at some of the style high points of 2011!

Crazy Hair Colors: Katy Perry went pink, Charlotte Free went pink, Lady Gaga went pink. It was definitely a wild trend!

Red Hair: This was a popular hair color this year with stars like Drew Barrymore, Demi Lovato, Blake Lively, and Emma Stone rocking their red locks.

Ombre Nails: Ombre hair has been extremely popular trend the last couple of years, but ombre nails made a big splash in the world of fashion this year.

Fuchsia Lip: This bold lip color was featured at Diane von Furstenberg, but Natalie Portman showed off a more wearable version at the Golden Globes.

Dip Dye Hair: Ombre hair was taken to a completely new level with the introduction of rainbow colors. Lauren Conrad was a huge part of making this such a popular trend.

What were your favorite trends of 2011?

Guest Post: Smooth and Sexy Winter Skin!

Hey beauties, I’m so excited to star as a guest on Opal Steven’s blog! Allow me to introduce myself: my name’s Stephanie - a fan of all things glamorous and a self-professed success maniac... and I’ll be showing how you to keep your skin sexy smooth all through Winter! After all, there are times that we don’t feel the need to be under wraps (or wearing ten jumpers, a hoody and a scarf!) such as intimate moments with the boy...and when Spring comes along we’ll be glad of the self-nurturing we gave ourselves through this period of “skin hibernation”. So let’s get started!

In Winter your best tactic is to work top to bottom. Your face and lips are always going to be exposed to the harsh conditions - weather that’s rain, central heating or diabolical wind storms (especially if you live in Scotland). The most popular tactic in the aim to protect your skin from said aggravations is to moisturize. Many people don’t realize that actually, there is a step before this - exfoliation! This will slough away all the dead skin cells that have essentially given up and will allow your new, smoother skin to come through. Moisturizing without exfoliating is a pointless exercise in most cases, as the moisture will only be reaching already damaged skin!

With that said, invest in a good performing facial scrub. As it’s Winter, why not purchase a self-heating one? Then the skin perfecting process will be more cozy than ever before! I’ve picked out my long-time favourite from Olay, the Daily Thermal Skin Polisher.

I use this every day in the shower to enjoy the mini-peel effect which comes with regular use. I notice that make-up glides on easily after using this. Accompany this with a jolly good body scrub that wakes you up and feels so fresh like Original Source Mint and Walnut Super Scrub. I trust this brand as it’s 100% natural and make from mint leaves and walnuts!

When the smoothing and blitzing regime is over, your face will essentially need a drink. For this, you can’t go wrong with the classic Cold Cream from Pond’s. This has been around for centuries and is known as a reliable multi-tasker: cleansing and softening with no need to rinse! If you have oilier skin you may want to rinse but this is entirely up to yourself. Patting on gently and leaving overnight will leave your face feeling baby soft in the morning.

Don’t forget to pay attention to your lips. Especially if you spend a lot of time puckering up. Buy a lip scrub especially designed for this area - Lush do an amazing natural sugar scrub which you can actually eat (it’s hard not to lick your lips when applying this...) and smells of a divine chocolate and mint mix. All of Lush’s products are 100% natural and even have use-by dates to to gain optimal benefit from the freshness.

After giving your lips a good scrub keep reapplying a lip balm to keep the new skin layer soft and kissable. Using Nivea is a good way to keep your lips moist without strands hair sticking to your lips in the wind! The flavors are very girly, giving a glam sheen and a dash of color - my personal favourites being Soft Rose and Pearl Shine.

You may also want to pay some attention to your feet. The amount of dry skin built up on the heels during this time is unbelievable. A good tip is to soak your feet first, perhaps in a hot steaming bath, and use a pumice stone to remove the dry layers. Then moisturise and pop on some socks. By morning you will be walking on clouds!

All of this is great advice but the way to gain maximum results is to compliment this with the advice given by Opal in her latest skincare post - you need your vitamins and you need water for your body to repair itself and see well through Winter.

I hope my advice will see you through a smooth and sexy Christmas and New Year. Remember when you’re blitzing away all the bad things in your life that New Year is a fresh start - both for beauty regimes and life.

Elite Therapeutics Review

Daily Clinical Skin Therapy

A dense, healing, salve-like complex, Elite Crème bears a true, pharmaceutical-grade consistency that is a perfect moisturizer for the whole body on a daily basis.

Dr. Schewe knew when he was developing the Elite Therapeutics line that the entire brand needed to be anchored by one, powerful, daily skin care product. Thus, the evolution of Elite Therapeutics’ Elite Crème Daily Clinical Skin Therapy was the first, and most potent, of Dr. Schewe’s everyday, yet clinical, skincare regimen. A dense, healing, salve-like complex, Elite Crème bears a true, pharmaceutical-grade consistency. This skin therapy product is not only an extremely hydrating moisturizer for dry or damaged facial skin, it also is a perfect moisturizer for the body…all-in-one. The inclusion of Vitamins A and C, as well as the super-power Vitamin E, make this crème an ideal choice for severely troubled skin. However, Dr. Schewe’s use of the exclusive Manuka Honey, as well as such natural extracts as Olive Oil, Pink Grapefruit and Avocado make this a light, yet exotic, treat for skin. Safe and natural, Elite Crème can be enjoyed by all skin types and will help replenish and renew…every morning and evening.

My Thoughts: My hands get really dry no matter what time of year it is and this Elite Crème really helped. I even used it on my face because my skin has been seriously dry since I started using a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide. It really hydrated my face and didn't break me out. Which is definitely something I'm always worried about when I try new products on my face because I break out really easily. I'm definitely impressed with this moisturizer!

About Elite Therapeutics

Based on the philosophy that beauty is health which is only achieved via protection, prevention and reversal of skin damage — the Elite Therapeutics line of products exemplifies the mantra that serious science and cutting-edge ingredients are the true path to inner and outer beauty...all through physical healing. The radiation and chemotherapy treatment regimens are toxic to tumors but also inflict collateral damage on normal tissues. As a result, most patients experience some level of skin and hair damage, and this can be extremely devastating to a patient's psyche.

Disturbed by these differing elements of physical and emotional stress, Dr. Schewe began testing and researching ingredients that could offer protection and relief to the external in order to help ease the internal fight for life.

As a trained medical researcher and a busy practicing clinician using today's most advanced oncology treatments, Dr. Schewe was able to unlock the secret of pure, Natural Vitamin E — a richly-infused, naturally occurring anti-oxidant that has long been known as the essential source of skin healing and reparation. Through the combination of science along with the natural isomers of Vitamin E and the additional natural miracle of Manuka Honey from New Zealand, Elite Therapeutics envelops and drenches the skin with potent, healthy goodness. No matter the source of your skin care concern — whether it is illness, aging or lifestyle — Elite Therapeutics will radically improve your beauty and health connection.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Mrs. Brown's Bath Bakery™

Hello My Sweeties!

I am Nadine Brown, owner and founder of this deliciously disceptive shop. I sell bath soaps, soaks, scrubs, scrubbies, bubble baths, hairsprays and whatever else you can think of that belongs in a bathroom. These do not intentionally clean you, but do intentionally relax you from a hard day.

The way they look and smell is completely intentional. What would relax you more than the smell of freshly baked goods and accompanying refreshments? I know I instantly calm down at the sight and smell of chocolate chip cookies and milk.

I intend to focus the contents of my shop on old-fashioned bath/shower remedies. Your grandmother and even great-grandmother would have known to use these tried and true methods of relaxation, personal care and (by extention) beauty. Not all of my products are of this nature, however.  I do put a small twist.

I use nothing but food grade, organic and natural (85% organic/minimally proccessed) ingredients such as:
baking soda
sea salt
organic food coloring (I make these personaly at home using a combination of berries and other food dyes)
organic seasonings

The list goes on. I am not going to give up all my secrets that easily ^_- !

Yes you could eat them. Though, your tounge would seriously question your judgement afterwards.  If you did injest any of them by mistake... rest assured that you, your loved ones and associated pets will only suffer a simple (but instant) moment of regret. No ailment will come of it. It's my personal guarantee. Consider it a bonus.  I do say know your household and any allergies. I do use chocolate and certain people/ pets have severe, death resulting, alergies to this. So beware, and be alert.

We are so fortunate to live in a time where technology, ingenuity and out-right wit reigns supreme. We go no longer at snail's paces and the stress of it all can be seen clearly on our faces. When you have too much on one end of the scale, you must counter balance.

With chemicals leaking into our every existance (plant, animal and human alike) it is a great relief to know that I can provide such a pure service and product. All of the items in my shop (as well as their ingredients) are and can be backed and cross referenced with EWG's standards for safe cosmetics (

Thank you again for visiting and hope your day was great!
