Opal Stevens' Beauty Blogger of the Week: Judi

I'm very excited to announce this week's "Beauty Blogger of the Week" - the beautiful and super adorable Judi! I absolutely love reading all her posts, especially her FOTDs! Everyone should definitely check out her blog My Tongue Split the Hemisphere

How did you get started blogging?
I’ve had personal blogs online since 2002. I’ve written everywhere from diaryland to livejournal to my own domain.  However, I only started beauty blogging this past month.  I had a strong desire to write about the things I was discovering and loving, and I wanted a home for all of the FOTD’s I was taking.  At first I was just sharing these things on twitter, but 140 characters is just not enough!

Beauty trend you love?
I love the coral trend this summer! Coral lips or coral blush, it looks good on a surprising number of people.

Favorite fashion trend?
I love seeing other people mix prints, particularly stripes and floral.  I tend to wear a lot of black, so I live vicariously through fashion forward beauty bloggers. :)

Favorite Health tip?
Drink more water! I’ve cut out all soda for good and drink water to the exclusion of almost everything else.

What are some of your favorite beauty products?

Brazen Cosmetics Sugar Lips Lip Scrub. I use this scrub daily. It removes flaky skin, softens and moisturizes your lips, and tastes great if you happen to lick it on “accident.” ;)  I recommend Yummy Gummies, Tropical Twist, and Mango Mango!

Epielle Cleansing Wipes. These cleansing wipes do as great a job as the Yes To brand cleansing wipes.  They are gentle, hypoallergenic, oil free, non-drying, and safe for contact lens wearers. Oh, and did I mention they cost $1 for 30 wipes?!  My picks are Green Tea and Aloe Vera scents.

MAC Paint Pot. I find that they don’t really crease on me despite having oily lids. They last all day, and come in a variety of shades that can stand on their own, or be used as a base for eye shadows.  My picks are Painterly and Rubenesque.

NARS Sheer Matte foundation.
This foundation provides a soft matte finish which is helpful if you have oily skin like me.  The coverage is sheer yet buildable, but you’re never left feeling as if you’re wearing a mask.

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser.  I can’t live without this cleanser! After using it my skin is bright, fresh and feels squeaky clean.  The sugar scrub is gentle even on sensitive skin and the organic lemongrass smells absolutely divine but isn’t overpowering.

Zoya Nail Polish. With over 300 shades in their library, Zoya has a color for every mood and every person!  They often have sales or gifts with purchase advertised on their facebook page, so I am constantly scoring a great deal while adding to my collection.  My favorite colors are Lindsay, a sheer sparkly pink, Caitlin, a purple/grey, and Dove, a neutral grey. Dove and Caitlin look great together in a trendy half-moon manicure!

Lolly Rotten Giveaway (Ends August 8th)

Giveaway
Would you like to win a free Femme Fatale perfume oil? One lucky Opal Stevens' reader will win! This giveaway ends Monday, August 8th.

Lolly Rotten Etsy Shop Review

Welcome and please mind the gap as you board our shop. Lolly Rotten is a collection of gothic and alternative perfume designed and lovingly hand made especially for you, oh most discerning shopper. We hope you'll find something here to interest your punky little heart.

All our perfumes are completely original, and our formulae slaved over with absolute devotion, you'll never find an imitation or a product with less than 100% of our hearts in it. Not literally of course, that would be pretty gross. You've probably noticed that our style is pretty unique. We like the stark, dramatic effect; it contrasts so beautifully with what's in the bottle ;)

All of Lolly Rotten's perfumes are made with 100% natural cold pressed Jojoba Oil, which your skin will adore. Perfume oil not only holds scent exceptionally well, rather than evaporating off and mutating as the day goes by; but it's also more environmentally friendly and much better for your health. Just check out how soft and nourished your skin feels after wearing our perfumes!

I absolutely love this etsy shop! Their great customer services, awesome sense of humor, and unique and amazing perfumes make it an wonderful shopping experience. I'm not a goth but I think you'd have to be crazy not to love their perfumes. I really like how unique and high quality their perfume scents. I was a little worried about whether or not the scents would last all day, but I was happily surprised to find that the scent stayed on all day.

Haunted
Imagine walking through an old graveyard late at night, just after a rainfall. The wet grass under your feet, the scent of old crumbling stone, the light covering of moss on all the treetrunks. Picture the ivy running unchecked over marble tombs, the cut flowers left by loved ones of the deceased, the damp wood and fern and something secret and dark and mysterious just below the surface. Haunted is your own personal journey to the otherworld, what lies beyond, nobody knows.

My Thoughts: This scent smelled really clean and fresh like a really high quality bar soap or body wash. It's got that amazing right out of the shower smell. Their samples sizes are roll on for easy application.

Bite Me
Remember in that TV series, where the vamp was all 'Woah, your blood is like, awesome! Totally the best tasting blood ever!" I might be paraphrasing, but what the hey. This is how I imagine blondie-girl's blood would taste. Sunshine and summer fruits and a little southern magic. All in all, pretty delicious.

My Thoughts: There is a reason this perfume is called "Bite Me", I seriously wanted to eat it :D! It smells like candy. I was so surprised at how great all of these perfumes are.

Venom
Eye of newt, toe of frog… Not so much; but Adder’s Fork sounds a bit more like it. Venom is a lush, green, herbaceous perfume, in fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if it were hallucinogenic. But hey, don’t swallow it. Wear it instead, and evoke the mystical spell casting and deep hedonism of times past. Benzoin, Oakmoss, Rosewood and Basil, sounds like a potion we could really get our forked tongues into.

My Thoughts: Lol, I love all the names and descriptions of these perfumes! All the perfumes I tried were amazing and this one was no exception. It's got a really sweet and wonderful scent - I wish I could explain how wonderful it smells :).

I am in love with Lolly Rotten's perfumes and will definitely make many purchases in the future!

Simply Smooth Review & Giveaway (Ends 8/8)

I was extremely excited to try out the Simply Smooth Xtend Maintenance Hair Care System. This line is a really great option if you're looking for a hair care line to help you maintain your keratin treatment or if you're just looking for extremely high quality hair care products. I fell in love with each and every one of these products and could tell that Simply Smooth puts a lot of care into making this an amazing line of hair care products. Here's some more information and my thoughts on a few products that the sent to me:

xtend keratin replenishing shampoo (tropical): Highly concentrated; botanically blended, sodium and chloride free keratin infused shampoo provides a luxurious lather and helps prolong the life of a keratin treatment. Developed with the highest quality keratin and botanicals, xtend keratin replenishing shampoo infuses into hair fibers to hydrate, seal cuticle and add shine. You’ll enjoy using the shampoo with its refreshing, tropical fragrance.

This shampoo does a really good job at cleansing the hair and has a really good smell to it. It definitely smells tropical, but it's also got a bubble gum kinda' scent to it as well. These products are really great if you're trying to maintain your keratin hair treatment, or if you just want some really high quality hair care products that will make your hair look and feel amazing.

xtend keratin replenishing conditioner (tropical): Hydrating formula is excellent for all hair types and has a wonderful tropical fragrance. Superior formula infuses the highest quality keratin into hair fibers to seal cuticle, hydrate and add incredible shine.

This conditioner has the same great smell of the shampoo and made my hair feel super soft. What's really great about all these products is that they do not contain sodium chloride which is an important hair care ingredient to avoid when you've gotten a keratin hair care treatment done.  Using shampoos with sodium chloride (salt) will wash out the treatment faster.

xtend keratin replenishing calming balm: Superior formula is used on wet hair to define curls without crunch and prevent fly away hair. In addition to smoothing and adding ultimate shine, xtend calming balm helps speed up blow dry time.

This calming balm isn't the best smelling product but it did wonders to my hair. It made it really soft and shiny. Even though it didn't have the greatest smell after I blow dried it I couldn't even smell it anymore.

xtend keratin reparative magic potion: Dual usage, light styling cream also acts as a leave-in conditioner and magically fixes everything! The keratin infused weightless, all purpose styling and conditioning formula benefits all hair types and will extend the life of a keratin treatment. Magic potion is applied to wet hair and magically rejuvenates by repairing elasticity and split ends. You’ll love the way it instantly detangles, smoothes, eliminates frizz and adds brilliant shine.

This is by far one of the best smelling hair care products ever - it definitely made up for the smell of the calming balm! It smelled like coconuts and made my hair look and feel soooo good. I was very impressed, this product definitely is a "magic potion"!

xtend humidity shield aerosol hair spray: Lightweight, non-flaking aerosol spray resists humidity, repels moisture, and leaves hair touchable with a light to firm hold. Formula is perfect for styling and finishing the hair. Conventional hairsprays utilize elongated fibers in a mesh pattern to create a strong hold and overlap shorter fibers in a mesh pattern to create a light hold. Xtend humidity shield hair spray was designed with unparalleled technology in that the fibers are not elongated, instead are oval shaped and small. Xtend humidity shield hair spray overlaps short, oval fibers that can be sprayed on lightly for light hold and more heavily for firm hold. The fibers leave little room in between them, blocking humidity out of the hair.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of hair sprays in general so I can't really compare it to other hair sprays you might find at a drugstore. It definitely blocked out moisture and eliminated frizz in my hair. As far as I could tell it was doing an amazing job.

Opal Stevens' Beauty Blogger of the Week: Alex

I'm very excited to announce this week's Beauty Blogger of the Week - my good friend Alex :D! It's crazy how much we have in common (I'm pretty sure we are twins that were separated at birth) - she's such an awesome person. Please, make sure to follow her blog Beauty in Bloom!

How did you get started blogging?
I actually discovered the youtube beauty videos first about two years ago, when I was trying to find ideas for something to wear for the first day of school. After that I knew I wanted to do something like that in my free time, but I didn't have a video camera and I really didn't want to be on camera, so I looked into blogs. I started mine October of 2010 but I really got into it in March and now I'm completely obsessed :)

Beauty trend you love?
I love coral lips right now, they look good on anybody and they compliment almost any eye makeup.

Favorite fashion trend?
Any type of dress! Floral, maxi, big print, small print, I love dresses! I actually wouldn't wear pants till the fourth grade, only dresses and skirts. I feel like I'm repeating that pattern again, I actually wasn't too big on maxi dresses at first but they are so comfy and you can dress them up and down with jackets, shoes and accessories! They're fantastic!

Favorite health tip?
There are actually two really easy tips that I make sure I follow, I drink at least 4 or 5 bottles of water per day and 3 to 4 cups of green tea per day. Doing both just cleanses your body of toxins and all the gross stuff that your body absorbs through out the day. And green tea makes you feel really happy and refreshed all day.

Beauty products you love?

Covergirl CG Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer: I love how light it feels, yet it still gives amazing coverage.

Physicians Formula Palette for Blue Eyes: Amazing! I don't have enough great things to say about this palette, it has amazing pigmentation and it really compliments your eyes. Then nice thing about the colors is you have three colors that are great for a day look, and a dressy dinner look and a night look, there are so many options!

Lancôme Ombre Asolue Shadow Duo: Great for a day makeup look! Brightens up your face!

Bare Minerals Foundation in Medium: This was the first ever foundation I ever tried and I've tried dozens since and nothing compares. It has a flawless application and is so light. Plus it doesn't dry out my skin, yay!

MAC Shadow in Era: It's funny that out of all the MAC shadows this one would be my favorite, just because its just a plain old light brown. But I absolutely love it! you can use it as a lid, crease or just by itself!

Victoria Secret Beauty Rush Lipgloss in Strawberry Fizz: I've always been a huge fan of the VS glosses, I feel though that in the past 2 or 3 years they've changed the formulation so they're a sticky now, maybe its just me. So I layer the gloss over a lip balm!

EOS Lip Balm in Lemon Drop: I am super picky when it comes to lip balms, they can't be waxy or heavy or smell weird. I've tried everything from the $14 MAC ones to the $1.29 blistex. I haven't been impressed, then I saw the EOS at rite aid and honestly grabbed it because of the packaging - its in this cute little ball. A huge plus for me with the EOS balm is, constantly I'm tempted to put balms in my pocket and then they get washed and ruin my clothes, but EOS doesn't fit in my pocket! So it doesn't get washed! And the lemon drop one smells amazing, I want to eat it!

Covergirl Nature Luxe Mousse Mascara: I'm not a person who loves huge massive lashes, sounds weird I know! But naturally I have long lashes. I want to look cute, but normal! Volume, I love, just not alot of length. The mousse mascara adds to your lashes, but doesn't over-power them!

Maybelline Color Sensational in Wink of Pink: I was hesitant with trying a lip stain, just because of the name, lip-stain. I wanted to be able to get it off! But I ended up really liking it! It comes off, its a cute color and perfect for the beach or a picnic because you don't have to worry about it smuding or getting on your teeth.

Arbonne Blush in Ballet: Gorgeous pink color! Gives your cheeks a beautiful flush!

Home Remedies for Acne and Acne Scarring

Baking Soda
Baking soda is an amazing remedy if you're having problems with acne. It's not harsh on the skin and can actually kill acne-causing bacteria, so you can use it as a daily cleanser and a mask. To use it as a cleanser just mix a little baking soda with some water and rub it on your skin gently in a circular motion. Make sure that you really wash away all the dirt and impurities on your skin. To use as a mask, mix a little bit of baking soda and water until you get a paste-like consistency. Leave on for 1/2 an hour or until it drys completely, then rinse with warm water.

Honey
Honey is a great way to get rid of acne scarring. Although it can take a while for you to see real results, if you're willing to have a little patience it does an amazing job at getting rid of those pesky scars. Raw and natural honey usually give the best results and because honey is gentle on the skin it can be used as a daily mask. Just apply a layer of honey to the skin and let it dry for 20 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water. The honey will give your skin a healthy glow and can even help your skin retain moisture.

Best Blog Award

I just got awarded this by one of my favorite beauty blogger, Vijaya! She has a really amazing blog and I've learned soooo much from her posts. Seriously, just go follow her blog... and then read the rest of this post :).

Rules:
Name your favourite color: Blue - all types :D
Name your favourite song: Haha, that's like the hardest question you could ever ask me! Music is basically my life - I'm always listening to it, whether I'm just sitting around or writing a post. Here are some of my favs though: Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, Radiohead - Creep, Lifehouse - Hanging By a Moment, No Doubt - Don't Speak, Fuel - Shimmer, Parachute - She, Hoobastank - The Reason, and Duncan Sheik - Barely Breathing.
Name your fav dessert: Mint chocolate chip ice-cream with lots of whip cream, peanut butter,  Reese's, and peanut M&Ms. Wow - writing that down I now realize that I may have a slight problem with peanut butter :/
What is pissing you off? Rereading something that I already posted and realizing how many grammatical errors I made. Then wondering how many people saw that and thought I was an idiot.
When you're upset, you... get really snappy and stand-offish.
Your favorite pet: dogs
Black or White? black
Your biggest fear is...: No question about it : HEIGHTS. I'm such a baby - I always think if I'm high up, whatever I'm standing on is just gonna cave in. C
onsidering the fact that I'm vertically challenged (5'3"), it's a reasonable fear.
Your best feature is... my hair - I'm obsessed with it and try to take seriously good care of it.
Everyday attitude: I'm pretty sociable, outgoing, and usually really happy. But seriously, don't even talk to me if I haven't been awake for at least 2 or 3 hours because I will be the most boring person on the planet.
What is perfection? Something I usually strive for, but have to quit kidding myself with. Perfection is not real - you can always improve, but that doesn't mean you should beat yourself up about it.
Guilty pleasure: Without a doubt: Frappucinos. Seriously, those things should be illegal.

I'm passing this on to:
Arianne Cruz

Kristina Stone
Ellie
Alexandra

The Stylish Blogger Award!

1. Link back to who awarded you!
Thank you sooooo much Alexandra! If your not following this girl's blog you are crazy!

2. Seven Random Things!

1. My favorite number is 77. Aha, kinda' works with the theme, huh :)?

2. I cry during a lot of movies, but for some reason no one sees me. Weird, right? I guess I have mastered the art of quiet crying (yeah, i'm cool like 'dat, jk). I was actually talking to Alexandra about this the other day - not about how cool I am, but about being big movie cryers, lol. But seriously, I cried big time when I watched UP, Tangeled, and Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel

3. I have a feeling that someone's going to be mad that I used "but" at the beginning of the last sentence. So what?! I hated it when teachers told me that I couldn't use "but" or "and" at the beginning of a sentence! Yeah, I know it's not a good habit to get into... Actually, I'm not a big fan of anyone telling me how to do things, but I'm getting better at putting a fake smile on my face. Lol, like I know I'm smiling at you, but I'm really throwing insults at you in my brain.

4. Pride & Prejudice is my FAVORITE movie ever! Keira Knightley is amazing.

5. I love tea! I drink it 2 or 3 times a day.

6. I have really awesome parents.

7. I get lonely really easily. I don't know why, I guess I just like having a lot of friends and being around people all the time. I need to get over that.

3. Pass on the Award!
I award:
Roxanne Joyce - She is really cool and I really love her blog! She also has really great style :).

Mercedes - Only recently I really go to know her, but so far there has not been a day that goes by that I don't crack up at something she said :D.

Danielle Jordan Terry - She is awesome and she has soooo many awesome posts on her blog!
